Some of the most successful services of the DIAS Payment System for the year 2023 are stated below along with their growth indexes.

The percentage of credit transfers (Bank to Bank credit transfers, instant credit transfers, fund collection, and payments of businesses/organizations) equals to 84,3% (342,3 million transactions) of the total number of transactions processed by DIAS in 2023. Out of such transactions, 84,6 million were Bank to Bank credit transfers, increased by 36,4% compared to 2022. Also, 43,4% of credit transfers were instant, resulting in 36,8 million instant credit transfers 2023, that is an 109,4% increase compared to 2022. On 27/12/2023, a daily record was achieved with 647 thousand instant credit transfers. Instant payments’ sub-category IRIS P2P reached 20,4 million instant credit transfers between friends reflecting an increase of 250,3% compared to 2022 (a remarkable 26 times more transactions compared to 2020). In December 2023, IRIS P2P registered users were 2,2 million, representing an increase of 60% compared to 2022 (users quadrupled compared to January 2020). The IRIS P2B service had by the end of 2023 155 thousand registered professionals, tripled compared to 2020, while IRIS P2B transactions increased by 292,8% compared to 2022 (12 times more transactions compared to 2020). It should be noted that the month of December 2023 had monthly record registrations both in IRIS P2P with 102 thousand new users, and in IRIS P2B with 30 thousand new users.

Additionally, 37,6% (152,7 million) of transactions processed in 2023 through the DIAS Payment System were payment collections for businesses and other entities, and they increased by 4,6% compared to 2022. More than half of these transactions were completed through the use of the RF/QR payment code. By December 2023 almost every (98%) organization of the public and the private sector that is connected to DIAS had adopted the standard RF/QR payment code.

Indicatively entities of the private and public sector that use the RF/QR payment code belong to the following industries/fields: tax authorities (using it to collect taxes such as circulation taxes), social security institutions, companies in the energy and telecommunications sector, insurance and pharmaceutical companies, companies offering mailing services, businesses in the car industry, private educational institutions, retail companies in electronics, clothing, cosmetic companies etc.

Payments of businesses/organizations reached 25,9% of transactions DIAS processed in 2023, summing up to 105 million and reflecting an increase of 2,1% compared to 2022. 102,5 million of such transactions result from the public sector (public servants’ payrolls, pensions, benefits) whereas the remaining 2,6 million transactions represent payments to private entities and businesses, with an increase of 38,7% compared to 2022.

Moreover, 28 million transactions (19,7 million successfully completed and 8,3 million rejections), corresponding to 7% of transactions processed by DIAS, were completed through the Dias direct debit service, recording an increase of 7,7% compared to 2022. This increase derives mainly from insurance and telecommunications companies’ payments, and direct debits initiated by companies based in third countries within SEPA e.g. PayPal.

Additionally, a significant growth is recorded in transactions of several other payment services such as IRIS payments in e-shops using the product IRIS eCommerce, which increased by 61% compared to 2022, and a fivefold increase compared to 2020. It should be noted that the number of merchants using IRIS commerce in their e-shops increased nineteen-fold in 2023 compared to 2020.

Last, it should be noted that only two DIAS services had a decrease in transactions again in 2023, interbank ATM service that processed 5,8 million transactions (a decrease of 5,8% compared to 2022), and interbank Cheque that processed 2,1 million transactions (a decrease of 2,5% compared to 2022). Those two services have consistently been decreasing for the past 6 years.

The following graph represents the percentage of transactions processed through the DIAS Payment System in 2023 as well as their value, per category / sub-category of payment services.

DIAS has 49 members -Payment Service Providers- 26 of which are based in Greece, 9 in Cyprus and 14 in the rest of Europe.
